Import Packing List
Importing a packing list requires a WiFi connection. A WebDAV/HTTP
server is started once the files are generated. To connect,
use either the
Bonjour or
IP Address. The
Bonjour address may not be
available depending on the WiFi router used. From
Mac OS X, switch to the
Finder and
select
Connect To Server...
(Command-K) under the
Go menu.
Be sure to enter the address exactly as displayed in the field.
On
Windows, go to
My Network Places
and click on
Add Network Place.
Follow the
Wizard to add a new
server. Once connected, copy or upload the packing list(s) from
your desktop to the server folder. Disconnect the server once the
files are copied and tap the
Done button
to finish. Alternatively, open a web browser and connect to the
Bonjour or
IP Address.
The packing list file is a CSV (comma separated value) file. The file may be created
in a text editor or a spreadsheet (export as a CSV file). The file must be saved as
a
UTF-8 text file. The first line of the file is used
to specify the packing list name (required) and description (optional). The following
lines describe items in the packing list. Each item consists of a name (required),
category (optional), description (optional), quantity (optional), and value (optional).
If a category is not included, the item is added to the
None category. If the category does not already exist, it
is created and added to the list of categories. To match an item in the items list, the
imported item must have the same name, category, and description. If an item does not
already exist in the items list, the item is created and added to the items list.
Packing List File Format:
"packing list name","description",,,
"item name","category","description","quantity","value"
"item name 2","category","description","quantity","value"
"item name 3","category","description","quantity","value"
...
The above format is the raw CSV file format (as text). In a spreadsheet, instead of separating
values with a comma (and using quotes), use a separate column for each set of values (name,
category, etc.). Save or export the file as a CSV file.
Export Packing List
Tap the
Export Packing List button to export packing
lists. The packing list files may be shared with others (for import) or edited in a text editor
or spreadsheet and then reimported into
Packing List.
The exported packing list file is a CSV (comma separated value) file described above
in
Import Packing List. The file(s) are transferred
over WiFi (WebDAV/HTTP) similar to import (described above). Connect to either the
Bonjour or
IP Address
displayed (follow the same connection instructions as in
Import Packing List) and copy or download the backup file to your
desktop. Disconnect the server once the file(s) have been copied and tap
the
Done button to finish.
Show Packed Items
The
Show Packed Items setting controls whether or not to
include the packed items of a trip in the exported email trip item list. If the setting is set to
off, none of the packed items are included in the email.
Show Packed Status
The
Show Packed Status setting turns the item packed status on or
off in exported email trip item lists. If the setting is enabled, items display their packed
status.
Export Email
The
Export Email setting sets the default email address to use
when exporting a trip item list.
Save Backup File
Tap the
Save Backup File button to save a backup file
for
Packing List. This will save all trips, packing lists,
categories, and items. The file is transferred over WiFi (WebDAV/HTTP) similar to import
(described above). Connect to either the
Bonjour or
IP Address displayed (follow the same connection instructions as
in
Import Packing List) and copy or download the backup file to your
desktop. Disconnect the server once the file has been copied and tap
the
Done button to finish.
Restore Backup File
Tap the
Restore Backup File button to restore a backup file for
Packing List. This will restore (and replace) all trips, packing lists,
categories, and items. The file is transferred over WiFi (WebDAV/HTTP) similar to import (described
above). Connect to either the
Bonjour or
IP Address displayed (follow the same connection instructions as in
Import Packing List) and copy or upload the backup file from your
desktop to the server folder. Restoring a backup file will replace all existing trips, packing lists,
categories, and items currently in
Packing List. Disconnect the server
once the file has been copied and tap the
Done button to finish.
Reset
Tapping the
Reset button will restore and reset
Packing List back to its original state. This will delete all
trips, custom packing lists, categories, and items. It will also delete all user preferences.
